Bring a touch of Irish storytelling underfoot with the Turquoise Gold Donegal Arts & Crafts Oriental area rug from LoomBloom, a hand tufted wool piece in a soft, colorful palette. A vivid turquoise ground is planted with stylized trees whose branches of coral carry leaves of gold and little red buds, while evergreens in deep green and tiny black birds fill the spaces in between. The scene feels lively and storybook sweet, with a graphic clarity that comes alive from across the room. A thin red stripe steps outward to a broad gold border, bursting with orange flowers and black clusters of blossoms, and an edge of turquoise and black scrolls frames everything with a tidy finish. The traditional Arts & Crafts structure gives the rug a vintage-inspired heritage, while the bright palette keeps the look modern and cheerful. Because the wool is tufted by hand, the pile holds each branch sharp against the background and feels soft and welcoming. This handmade rug makes a delightful statement rug for a living room, bedroom, dining room, entryway or home office. Artisan-made and brimming with botanical charm, it turns any floor into a favorite place to look.

Story Behind the Art: Ireland's rug industry began in the late 1800s, when Morton & Company started producing rugs in Donegal. Rugs made there in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were known for richly decorative motifs given a distinctly Irish interpretation, borrowing from Oriental and Persian rug designs as well as from Celtic art. Donegal weavers also absorbed ideas from popular movements of the day, including Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau. With their expansive compositions and singular character, Donegal rugs are valued for how easily they suit a wide range of decor styles.
