Story Behind the Art: Kazak rugs are celebrated for saturated, naturally dyed color, rugged durability, and bold tribal geometry. Originating among diverse communities in the Caucasus—between the Black and Caspian Seas—the style embraces striking medallions, rosettes, hooked polygons, diamonds, and crosses, along with stylized birds, animals, trees, and human figures. Today, pieces woven in Azerbaijan, Iran, or elsewhere in the Caucasus are often called Caucasian Kazaks; related weavings from Afghanistan are known as Afghan Kazaks, and Pakistan has become a significant modern producer as well. Across geographies, the shared DNA remains: crystalline geometry, vivid color, and an unmistakable tribal presence.
