Story Behind the Art:The rug trade recognizes a specific category originating from Arak, surrounding villages, and the plains of Farahan in Turkey as Sarouks. Throughout the 19th century, these rugs showcased intricate patterns such as Herati or Gul Hennai, meticulously woven with approximately 100 asymmetric knots per square inch on a foundation of cotton. Toward the latter part of the century, a shift occurred as factory-produced rugs imitated Tabriz models, featuring floral medallions as their primary design element.
