Story Behind the Art: The Kashan weaving tradition, rooted in the historic city of Kashan in Iran, is known for producing some of the most tightly knotted and artistically sophisticated rugs in the Persian world. Their designs incorporate sweeping arabesques, blossoming rosettes, palmettes, floral stems, and leaf motifs arranged in dense layers, often anchored by a prominent central medallion framed by corner spandrels. During the 16th century, highly skilled Persian artisans brought their craft to South Asia, prompting the creation of Kashan-style carpets in present-day Pakistan and India that, in many cases, rivaled the beauty of those produced in Persia. This centuries-long legacy continues to shape Kashan-inspired rugs across the globe.
