Story Behind the Art: Hand-knotted rugs from Pakistan form one of the nation’s largest cottage industries, with origins dating as far back as the 11th century under Mughal influence. Among them, Pak Persian rugs have become especially prized for their craftsmanship and density. These rugs are often woven to an impressive 288–300 KPSI, making them exceptionally durable and ideal for high-traffic areas. Designs incorporate traditional Persian motifs such as medallions, paisleys (botehs), traceries, and floral or geometric patterns arranged in striking combinations. Originally produced in response to global trade shifts in the 1970s, when Iranian carpets were restricted from U.S. markets, Pak Persian rugs quickly established their own reputation for quality. Today, they remain celebrated for their fine weaving, diverse designs, and enduring strength.
