Story Behind the Art: Kerman rugs, celebrated for their exceptional craftsmanship and intricate designs, originate from the historic city of Kerman in southeastern Iran, a renowned weaving hub since the Safavid era (1501–1732). Their patterns often feature a central medallion framed by floral or architectural borders, while other designs include Shah Abbasi medallion-and-corner, garden, vase, tree of life, hunting scenes, and all-over boteh, floral, or striped motifs. The most iconic Kerman rugs showcase the vase or boteh pattern, with vases or boteh motifs scattered across a floral and palmette background. Known for their finely knotted weave, delicate artistry, and rich color palettes, these rugs typically incorporate 15–30 colors and require over a year of meticulous labor, reflecting a legacy of timeless skill and aesthetic refinement.
