Story Behind the Art: Kashan rugs, like many Persian carpets, take their name from their city of origin—Kashan in Iran. Known for their refined craftsmanship and exceptionally tight weaves, traditional Kashan rugs feature dense arrangements of arabesques, palmettes, scrolling stems, rosettes, and blossoms, often organized around a central medallion with corner spandrels. During the Safavid period in the 16th century, highly skilled weavers and dyers were brought to the area corresponding to modern Pakistan and India to replicate and enhance the Kashan weaving tradition. These workshops produced pieces so finely crafted that some rivaled, and even surpassed, those woven in Persia itself.
