Story Behind the Art: Indo-Kashan rugs are an exquisite Indian interpretation of the legendary carpets from Kashan, Iran, bringing centuries of Persian-inspired design into modern homes with meticulous craftsmanship. While the original Kashan carpets flourished in the 16th-century Safavid courts, Indo-Kashan rugs are woven today in celebrated Indian weaving centers like Jaipur and Bhadohi, honoring the regal elegance of their Persian ancestors. These rugs often follow the famed 'Medallion and Corner' layout, featuring a central diamond-shaped medallion surrounded by lush floral vines, palmettes, arabesques, and sometimes Shah Abbas-inspired motifs that cover the field with intricate all-over patterns. Each rug is hand-knotted with approximately 150–250 knots per square inch, using 100% wool pile on a cotton foundation to ensure longevity and tactile richness. Higher-end variants employ premium New Zealand wool, lending a subtle sheen and silky softness, while some designs incorporate silk highlights to make the floral motifs shimmer in light. Indo-Kashan rugs marry the opulent symmetry and visual drama of Persian artistry with the warmth and vibrancy of Indian color sensibilities, creating a luxurious floor covering that blends historical prestige with contemporary appeal.
