Basberiyan Kilims are rare flatwoven rugs from the Bitlis region in Eastern Anatolia, Turkey, and hold deep cultural value. These tribal rugs are made by nomadic or semi-nomadic weavers using hand-spun wool and sometimes goat hair. They feature bold geometric designs filled with symbols like ram’s horns, protective eyes, and fertility signs—each woven with a purpose and meaning. The colors come from natural dyes, creating rich reds, deep indigos, and earthy tones that become more beautiful with time. Traditionally used as floor coverings, prayer mats, or even as tent dividers, Basberiyan Kilims are now treasured antiques. With only limited commercial production today, they remain a powerful representation of Kurdish and Anatolian weaving traditions and storytelling through textiles.
