Story Behind the Art: Renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship and intricate designs, Kerman rugs hail from the historic city of Kerman in southeastern Iran, a prominent weaving center since the Safavid era (1501–1732). Traditional Kerman rugs often feature a central medallion set within a floral or architectural border, though patterns can also include Shah Abbasi medallion-and-corner, garden, vase, tree of life, hunting and animal scenes, as well as all-over boteh, floral, and striped motifs. The most iconic design is the vase or boteh pattern, with vases or boteh motifs scattered across a background of floral elements and palmettes. Celebrated for their fine weave, delicate detailing, and rich color palette, Kerman rugs typically incorporate 15–30 colors and require over a year of skilled labor to complete, reflecting a legacy of meticulous artistry.
