Story Behind the Art: Renowned for their intricate craftsmanship and sophisticated designs, Kerman rugs come from the historic city of Kerman in southeastern Iran, a key center of rug weaving since the Safavid era (1501–1732). These rugs commonly feature a central medallion set within floral or architectural borders, while other patterns include Shah Abbasi medallion-and-corner, garden, vase, tree of life, hunting scenes, and all-over boteh, floral, or striped motifs. The most iconic Kerman rugs are recognized for their vase or boteh patterns, where vases or boteh motifs are scattered across a floral and palmette background. Celebrated for their fine weave, exquisite detailing, and vibrant color palette, each Kerman rug can take over a year to complete, often incorporating 15–30 colors, exemplifying the timeless artistry and unmatched skill of master weavers.
